Sometimes rohu fish curry is made with mustard paste. But today we will share rui macher recipe with potatoes. So let’s learn the recipe of fish curry without delay. Bengali Rohu Fish Recipe Ingredients

  • Rohu fish – 1 kg.
  • Onion- 2 medium size.
  • Potato- 2 large size.
  • Tomatoes- 6 medium size.
  • Ginger- 15 grams.
  • Raw Chillies- 5
  • Whole cumin seeds- 1 tsp.
  • Turmeric powder- 2 and 1/2 tsp.
  • Coriander powder- 1 tsp.
  • Black cumin- 1 tsp.
  • Bay leaves- 3
  • Dry Chillies- 4
  • Salt- as per taste.
  • Mustard oil- 40 grams.
  • Sugar- 1 tsp.
  • Water – according to quantity.
  • Coriander leaves- small quantity.

Steps for making Rohu Fish Curry

Step 1: Marinate the Rohu Fish

To make rui macher recipe, you need to take 1.5 kg of fish. You will keep the amount of fish as you like. Here we will cook curry with 1.5 kg rui fish. For this, the fish must be carefully selected and washed first. You can keep the pieces of fish big or small if you want.

After the fish is washed well, add a teaspoon of turmeric powder and a little salt should be spread on both sides of each fish and marinated. After that, leave the fish smeared with salt and turmeric for at least 15 to 20 minutes.

Step 2: Fry the fish

Now it’s time to fry the marinated fish pieces with salt and turmeric. For this, turn on the oven and heat a pan. When the pan is hot, add 40 ml of mustard oil and heat the oil. At this time, keep the gas on medium flame. Or fish will burn and turn black. Once the oil is hot, drop the fish pieces into the pan one by one.

When one side is lightly fried, flip the fish pieces and fry the other side as well. Remember to take the fish lightly fried, if fried too hard, the fish pieces will be tough. If the pieces are not fried at once, fry them two or three times. Once fried, keep it on a plate.

Step 3: It’s time to fry the potatoes

Bengalis have a different relationship with potatoes. Bengalis use potato in fish curry. We will also prepare rui fish recipe using potatoes here. For this I will take two big size potatoes. Now peel the potatoes well. When the peel is done, cut the potatoes into long pieces. After washing well once with water, put 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric and little salt in the potato.

Now it’s time to fry the potatoes. Use the leftover oil from your fish fry to fry the potatoes. Turn on the oven and heat the oil in the pan and add the potatoes. Let’s say at this point, fry half of the potatoes. No need to deep fry. Drain the potatoes when they are about 50 percent cooked.

Step 4: Making fish curry bengali style paste for gravy

First, make a paste of onion. Let’s say, we will not use too much onion here. Only 2 medium sized onions should be taken. Peel the onions and cut an onion into four pieces. Then take the onions in a mixer and make a paste with little water.

Next, make a paste of tomatoes. For this, take 6 medium size tomatoes and cut them roughly. Then take the tomatoes in a mixer and add 5 green chillies and little water. Now make a fine paste of tomato and green chillies.

Now you have to make another paste. For this, take 15 grams of ginger cut into pieces, 1 teaspoon of whole cumin seeds and 3 dry chillies in the mix. Add little water in it. Mix all these ingredients well in a mixer.

Step 5: Making simple fish gravy recipe

Now I have entered the main part of Bengali Rohu Fish recipe. Here we will make a nice gravy. To make the gravy, turn on the burner and heat the remaining oil in the pan. Then add 1 teaspoon of black cumin and 3 bay leaves.

When the black cumin gives off a light smell, add the onion batter made before in the oil. Then keep the stove on high flame and fry the onion until it turns red. Once the onion is fried, add the ginger paste made in it. Then fry it on medium flame until the raw smell of ginger disappears. Now add 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder and 1 teaspoon of coriander powder and stir for some time. You will see that the oil will release from the masala and the masala will get a nice color.

At this time, the tomato paste prepared earlier should be added. Now grind it well in high flame for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, you will see that the raw smell of tomatoes is gone. Now add 1 teaspoon of sugar and salt to taste and stir fried potatoes. Then stir the potatoes well for 1 minute.

Then add enough water to the gravy. But if you want, you can also make dry rohu fish recipe. Now boil the gravy for a while. When the potatoes are cooked, fry the fish in it. Then reduce the gas flame and boil for another 4 minutes, Bengali style rohu fish curry will be ready.

Important tips For Rui Macher Recipe

● For making rohu fish recipe, it is better to keep the pieces big. But you can keep it small if you want. So that the fish does not splash during frying, apply salt and turmeric while marinating the fish and apply 2 teaspoons of mustard oil on it. Then there will be no more fear of oil spilling while frying.

● If you want to keep fish curry thin, add more water, and if you want to thicken it, add less water.
